Electric scooter weight limit: how much can an e-scooter carry?

Electric scooter weight limit: how much can an e-scooter carry?

Every electric scooter has a weight limit, and it is one of the most useful numbers on the spec sheet. It tells you how much load the frame, motor, brakes and tyres are engineered to carry, and it shapes how your scooter feels every time you step on. Here is the electric scooter weight limit for each scooter in our current range, why load matters, and what to look for if you are choosing an electric scooter for heavy adults.

What is the weight limit on a Pure electric scooter?

Every scooter in our current range has a maximum rider weight of 120kg. That covers the Air⁶ range, the Escape range, Advance, Flex and our Pure x McLaren models.

Model Max rider weight Max power Max range (one charge)
Air⁶ Suspension 120kg 924W Up to 45km
Air⁶ Pro+ Suspension 120kg 1200W Up to 75km
Air⁶ Ultra Suspension 120kg 1200W Up to 90km
Air⁶ Ultra Max Suspension 120kg 1900W Up to 90km
Escape Pro+ Suspension 120kg 1200W Up to 60km
Escape Ultra Max Suspension (coming soon, available to pre-order) 120kg 1900W Up to 75km
Advance 120kg 924W Up to 57.5km
Flex 120kg 924W Up to 52km
Pure x McLaren 120kg 924W Up to 62.4km
Pure x McLaren Flex 120kg 924W Up to 52km

Power figures are maximum output. Range figures are the maximum on one charge, and the distance you actually get depends on load, terrain and how you ride.

Why the weight limit matters

The weight limit is not a simple pass or fail. Even well within it, the load you carry changes how your scooter behaves in four clear ways.

Range

The more weight your scooter carries, the more energy the motor draws to get you moving and keep you at speed. A heavier rider on the same scooter, on the same route, will see fewer kilometres from a charge than a lighter one. Stop-start riding and hills make the difference bigger. If you sit towards the top of the limit, choose a battery with room to spare. Our guide to what range you need will help you work it out.

Hills

Climbing asks more of the motor than anything else. Extra load means a slower climb and more battery used on the way up. This is where maximum power earns its place. The Air⁶ Ultra Max Suspension carries our most powerful motor, with 1900W maximum output, so a steep rise feels like a steady pull rather than a struggle.

Braking

More mass means more momentum, and more momentum takes longer to stop. The heavier the total load, the earlier and more progressively you should brake, and the more space you should leave ahead. The Air⁶ Ultra Max Suspension adds a rear disc brake for extra stopping confidence. Whatever you ride, check your brakes regularly, because a heavier load wears them faster.

Tyre pressure

Your tyres carry every kilo. Under a heavier load an underinflated tyre squashes further, which dulls the steering, wears the rubber faster and leaves the tyre and wheel more exposed to damage from kerbs and potholes. Our Air⁶ and Escape scooters run 10-inch tubeless tyres at 35psi. Check them before you ride and keep them at the recommended pressure. Our tyre pressure guide explains why it makes such a difference.

Count everything you carry

It is easy to think only about your own weight, but your bag counts too. A laptop, a change of clothes and a lock soon add up, and a full rucksack can weigh several kilos. If you weigh 100kg and carry a heavy bag, you are already much closer to the limit than you might think. We recommend treating the weight limit as your total load and keeping some headroom in reserve.

Top tip: never hang bags from the handlebars. The extra weight swings with every turn, pulls the steering off line and makes your scooter harder to control. Wear a rucksack close to your back instead, so the weight stays centred over the deck.

Choosing an electric scooter for heavy adults

If you are near the top of the weight limit, look beyond that one number. Power, stability, braking and comfort all matter more as the load goes up, and some of our scooters are especially well suited.

  • Power for hills: the Air⁶ Ultra Max Suspension pairs our most powerful 1900W motor with an added rear disc brake and up to 90km of range.
  • Stability: our Active Steering Stabilisation System™ helps keep the steering centralised, dampening unwanted side-to-side movement. You will find it on the Air⁶ Ultra, Air⁶ Ultra Max and Escape Pro+ Suspension.
  • A stronger stance: the Escape Pro+ Suspension combines a strengthened steel frame with our forward-facing Ultimate Riding Stance, which many riders find more natural and more planted. Read more about why forward-facing feels different.
  • Comfort: dual GlideMotion™ suspension on the Air⁶ and Escape ranges smooths out bumps and vibration, so rougher surfaces feel like a gentle roll rather than a jolt.
  • Range headroom: the Air⁶ Pro+ Suspension offers up to 75km on one charge, which leaves plenty in reserve when you are carrying more.

Staying within the limit protects your warranty

Our 12-month warranty covers defects when your scooter is used and maintained in line with the user manual. Damage from accidents or misuse is not covered, so riding within the weight limit protects your scooter and your cover. You can read the full terms on our warranty page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum weight for an electric scooter?

It varies by brand and model. Every scooter in our current range has a maximum rider weight of 120kg.

Does the weight limit include my bag?

We recommend counting everything you carry, including a rucksack, as part of your total load, and leaving some headroom below the limit.

What happens if I ride over the weight limit?

You will get less range, slower climbs and longer stopping distances, and you put more strain on the frame, tyres and brakes. Damage from misuse is not covered by our warranty.

Which Pure scooter is best for heavier riders?

All of our current scooters carry up to 120kg. For extra power on hills, the Air⁶ Ultra Max Suspension has our most powerful motor. For a stable, forward-facing stance, the Escape Pro+ Suspension is a strong choice.

It is currently only legal to use an e-scooter on private land with the permission of the land owner. It is illegal to ride an e-scooter on a public road, cycle path, bridleway or pavement. For the latest, visit our E-scooter Legislation Hub.
