How To Maximise Your Electric Scooter Battery Life

Did you know that looking after your e-scooter battery properly is key to getting the most out of your e-scooter? Your electric scooter battery isn’t just responsible for the charge, after all, but also the speed and range.

If you treat your battery well, it’ll do the same for you. However, a neglected battery will often be the cause of an underperforming e-scooter. If your electric scooter is unable to hold a lasting charge, it could mean your battery’s life is nearing its end.

Luckily, correct electric scooter battery maintenance is easy. Simply follow our expert guide on how to maximise your e-scooter battery life, and enjoy plenty more long and fun rides together.

Firstly, The Tech Bit …

All our e-scooters feature lithium-ion batteries. These low weight, rechargeable batteries are so high powered that they are often used in the military and aerospace. They’re much smaller than lead batteries, and are incredibly efficient, lasting longer than ever. They aren’t indestructible though, so you’ll need to treat your battery like the powerful and intricate piece of technology that it is.

Try Not To Fully Deplete Your E-Scooter Battery

The first thing to remember is that electric scooter batteries are different from those in our phones. From force of habit, it's easy to use your battery until it’s fully drained and then charge it up fully after. However, this, in fact, could be harmful to your e-scooter battery. Instead, you should charge your battery at every opportunity you get. This is because each e-scooter battery comes with between 500 - 1000 charge cycles, depending on the manufacturer. A full charge cycle is 100% to 0% then back to 100%. For the longest battery life, we strongly recommend keeping your e-scooter charge above 50%. You’ll get maximum life if you’re able to keep more than 80% charge. We have spare chargers here, to help you keep that charge level high.

Only Use Correct E-Scooter Chargers

Just like us, electric scooter batteries come in all shapes and sizes. Unfortunately, there’s no ‘one size’ fits all when it comes to chargers. Each e-scooter battery will only be fully compatible with its recognised charger. If your e-scooter charger is lost or damaged we understand that it could be tempting to use any charger that fits. However, this can be extremely harmful to your battery. Even if the charger appears to be working, it can be charging the battery improperly. Overcharging and undercharging can, in the long run, cause irreparable damage. If any damage or loss occurs to your e-scooter battery don’t worry, as we’ll have your back. We stock a range of e-scooter battery chargers for various models so you’re never too far from a replacement.

E-Scooter Battery Temperature

If you’re using your electric scooter in extreme conditions, the battery health will suffer as a consequence. Hot temperatures will cause your battery to struggle, especially when charging, so always charge in a cool, ventilated area. All of our electric scooters come with an instruction manual provided. In this, you’ll be able to find further details on the best conditions for your chosen e-scooter.

Bolt-On E-Scooter Batteries

Fancy even more power? Then a bolt-on battery could be for you. Having an extra power supply will prevent the likelihood of you getting caught short without charge. Plus, you’ll have the thrill of extra speed and range courtesy of the extra power boost! The Ninebot Segway ES4 delivers greater range, power and top speed with its additional bolt-on battery.

With proper care and maintenance, there’s no reason why your electric scooter battery can’t supply you with optimum performance and last you for years.
