Bike Week 2020 spotlight: Brompton M6L 6 Speed Electric Folding Bike

June 10th 2020

This week, to celebrate National Bike Week #BikeIsBest campaign, Pure Electric is uncovering the diversity of e-bikes with some of the highlights of our rapidly growing e-bike range.

With the recent accelerated investment by the UK Government to improve provisions for bike and e-bike use across the country, we know that now is the perfect time to rediscover cycling with a new e-bike. Each day, we’ll highlight an e-bike designed for a specific need, so that you can get a better idea of which kind could be right for you!

Today is day three, and this time we’re taking a closer look at the Brompton M6L, our top pick for a folding commuter e-bike.

Day OneOrbea Gain F40 Electric Hybrid Bike

Day Two: Haibike SDuro Hardseven 5.0 Electric Mountain Bike

Day Three: Brompton M6L 6 Speed Electric Folding Bike

Day Four: Scott Sub Cross eRide 20 Electric Hybrid Bike

Day Five: Gtech Sports and City Hybrid Electric Bikes

Folding convenience: electrified

Almost ubiquitous for the folding bike, a Brompton is often touted as the last word in urban-proof cycling, and it’s hard to argue with that assessment. Not only is it ingeniously foldable and portable, it rides just like an ordinary bike. As a feat of engineering, a Brompton is hard to criticise.

With the Brompton Electric folding bikes, the innovation ante was upped. Input from Williams Advanced Engineering, which designed the removable motor and battery system, revolutionised the concept, packing a 250W front hub motor and 300Wh power cell that can achieve up to 70km of range.

The one-click attachment system means that the battery can be recharged easily anywhere, while the 14.5kg bike weight (17.62kg including the battery pack) makes the Brompton easy to fold up and carry onto public transport or into the office. It also features a handy USB port that can charge mobile phones on the move – an essential component of any mode of transport in the 21st century!

The M6L model features a six-gear transmission, allowing you tackle urban hills with ease, while the Brompton ‘M’ handlebar is perfectly suited to everyday urban riding. Meanwhile, the M6L’s seatpost is selectable, with an extended version on offer for the tallest riders. This means that, despite its small dimensions, the Brompton M6L can fit any rider with ease.

City ready

Not only does the Brompton M6L come with its ingenious folding design and specially engineered pedal assistance system, it also comes packed with equipment that makes it truly city ready. The supplied front pack, for example, provides enough space for luggage essentials as well as the compact battery.

As standard, it comes fitted with mudguards for true all-weather rideability without the risk of dirtying your office attire, and it’s ready out of the box to be ridden on dark mornings and evenings with high-specification Busch & Müller and Spanninga lights for maximum visibility on roads and cycle paths.

You’ll also get great all-weather grip from the premium Schwalbe Marathon Racer tyres, making your ride experience as safe and enjoyable as possible, while providing top-level puncture protection.

The bottom line

The Brompton M6L 6 Speed Electric Folding Bike is arguably the last word in portable, convenient urban e-bike design. With Brompton’s famous folding frame, plus the assistance of Williams Advanced Engineering to create a state-of-the-art compact motor and battery system, this range-topping 6-gear model adds real urban hill climbing ability while retaining all the convenience of a folding bike.
