6 reasons why an electric bike is a perfect for 2021

December 28th 2020

With 2020 soon to be in the rear-view mirror, and the optimism of a healthier 2021 on the horizon, many people are considering what changes they can make to their daily lives in order to live better. After all, in a world just beginning to get to grips with the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re all motivated to take even better care of ourselves!

Thinking about how we travel is often an important part of making better choices – and an electric bike could really make a huge positive impact on your quality of life. Here are six reasons why an e-bike is a perfect solution for us in 2021.

  1. Healthy and hygienic transport

Although we all hope that COVID-19 will become a thing of the past in 2021, the reality is that it is very likely to be a significant factor in our lives for the foreseeable future. But even before the pandemic, getting around by public transport certainly had its drawbacks.

With overcrowded train carriages and buses already hotbeds for the transmission of infections like the common cold, alongside inevitable delays and limited personal space, there has always been good reason to adopt pedal power to help you get around.

Plus, there are the brilliant health benefits when it comes to cycling – improved cardiovascular health, weight loss, muscle tone, wellbeing, focus, and mood (and that’s just to start!) are all major upsides of riding an e-bike.

  1. Big cost savings

Recently, we published a story about the potential cost savings of swapping a car for an e-bike, and the figures make for truly compelling reading. In short, the average cost of running a car amounts to £1,947.96 per year – costs that can easily be eliminated once the initial investment of an e-bike has been made.

Perhaps you have a second car that could easily be sold on, or you’re considering buying a second car and wondering if there’s a better way? Either way, an e-bike could be the answer you’re looking for if you’re looking to save money!

  1. Fun

Do you remember the fun you had on a bike as a child? We think that fun never really disappears, although if you’ve left your bike riding days behind then it sometimes feels like that fun is a thing of the past!

You could choose to get your existing bike out of the shed, make more of your current bike or e-bike, or invest in a new e-bike, making use of trail centres if you have an electric mountain bike, reacquainting yourself with road riding if you have an e-road bike, or indeed explore further afield than your norm if you own an urban or touring e-bike.

With travel restricted, opportunities to get socialise more limited and with the serious overtones of life today, we’re convinced that (re)igniting the fun of riding a bike is a brilliant reason to embrace two wheels again in 2021.

  1. Practicality

If you’re fed up of sitting in traffic, or need to get from A-B by winding through back streets, or simply struggle for somewhere to park, then an e-bike can be a brilliant solution for anyone living in an urban area or that needs convenient local travel.

Thanks to their motor assistance, e-bikes are easier to ride than unpowered bikes too. Accelerating from a standstill is incredibly easy, and you’ll keep getting help all the way up to 25km/h (15.5mph).

The motor power also makes carrying heavier loads easier too – so where before you might have worried about carrying bulky loads in your bike basket, panniers or on your back, the electrical power effectively eliminates the extra effort (and then some).

And hills? Almost completely flattened. Great!

  1. Environmental

Naturally, integrating an e-bike into your daily life is going to be more eco-friendly compared to owning a car. Even if you have the enviable choice of buying an electric car or an e-bike, you’ll still end up spending lots more of CO2 on the manufacture of the car compared to an e-bike.

Plus, although you might think that a normal bike or walking would be the most eco-friendly way of travelling ahead of an e-bike, in fact it’s the e-bike that is claimed to be the most efficient!

  1. Business support

E-bikes come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and perhaps the most distinctive are cargo e-bikes. With specially designed storage compartments, they’re great for helping families and businesses get around in a healthier, greener way.

Perhaps you want to do the school run in a more eco-friendly, healthier way for both you and your children? Or maybe you run a small business and need to transport goods or tools around your local area? Either way, a cargo e-bike can be a great alternative to a car or small van, with safe load carrying a real strength.
